Exellent windbreak

Have had one of these for the last year and can not stress how good they are.

We have had it up in some really strong winds and it has stood up to everything thrown at it.

So much better than the hammer in the pole type

I wasn't sure whether a windbreak would be a good thing to have or not. But it turned out to be really useful for several reasons.

  1. To shelter from the wind (obviously)
  2. To get some additional shade
  3. To give us a defined area that helped keep our stuff in one place.

These are all true for any old windbreak of course but in addition to these, the way this windbreak has guys and metal poles with spikes makes it very stable even when the wind gets quite strong. It was much better than the hammer the wooden poles into the ground type of windbreak. On our last trip a lot of those types were flapping and bowing in the wind whiles ours was still resolutely upright.

It's very easy to put up single handed, the poles slide through the channels and the spike on one end goes through an eyelet where the guys are attached, at the bottom is an elastic which is fastened together to leave a hole to slot the spike on the other end of the pole through. This means the pole is held inside the channel and the windbreak is pulled taught. Then you just stab the lower ends in the ground, peg out the guys and it's up. It was so easy I moved ours mid-trip to get better shade.

One last thing that makes this great for our tent in particular is that it has a guy rope that comes out of the front exactly where you walk (a bit annoying to say the least but unavoidable). With the windbreak in place we can attach this guy to the top of one of the windbreak poles and then the windbreak guy to the ground, this lifts the annoying guy out of the way.
