A lot of modern tents have sloping front doors like the Hartford, what this means is that if (or when) it rains anything inside the front of the tent will get wet.
This is where the front extension is a can't live without product. It covers the porch of the tent completely and is wide and full standing height.
This allows the tent to be left open in bad weather without fear of water ingress and also gives you somewhere to cook or just sit and enjoy the fresh air. We have had ours for 2 years now and it has stood up to a lot of rain and wind and we would not be without it.
