As with most campers space in the car was a problem for us! despite having a pretty large car (Toyota Verso (Small estate)) so it like the blog owner it was either time for a tow bar and trailer or a roof box! We opted for the roof box simply because ferries for one do not charge extra (assuming you are under a certain height) and they are less hassle when you take wrong turn or those mountain roads.

Im going to break this review down into sections to make it easier as we had many plus and minus points.

1. Fitting Very straight forward to fit (roof bars already on that's another article coming soon ;) ) you have 4 u shaped bars that lock on to the roof bar via thumb screws. easy enough? yes and no. the front ones are easy but the back ones which are on the hinge off the roof box are not so easier I found myself balancing on ladders trying to get the right angle to tighten. score - 3/5

2. Packing Ignoring the fact its on the roof (I opted for roof a box so its not fair to complain about the loading) Obviously loading a trailer would be allot easier. Opening both the doors helps just be careful in the rain not to slip. we purchased some big luggage bags and placed what we needed into those so it was only a matter off loading 2 off those and then packed out with our sleeping bags and pillows. the only thing I can comment on really it would have been nicer if the lid opened a little higher other than that as expected. Score 4/5

3. Closing, Locking and Driving If your having problems closing the lid then you have over loaded! nothing more nothing less. if loaded correctly lid will close without problem. latch at front ensures no lifting when driving. Locking was again as expected easy to do unless you overloaded. We encountered very little wind noise nothing like when i was kid with my dads collapsible roof rack whistling away with the tarp flapping on the roof! just wishing we would arrive soon! The problem we did find though is that due to the problems fitting we did not want to remove it when we had arrived. if were planning a pitch for two weeks then maybe but we often move about only pitching for 3/5 days at a time. to fit and remove 7/8 times during a trip is just not an option. so we often found that we were restricted with parking! it had to be open air only! and although most of the time this was not a problem. the stops we had near a city we planned on visiting was an issue as most parking was underground! Score 3/5

Overall. Issues aside I know we made the right choice. yes leaving it on for the duration of the trip limited us for parking. but we always found a place to park eventually thanks to sat nav! i have not commented on fuel usage simply because both options increase your fuel usage. You could argue that during our trip whilst we left it on we were increasing fuel usage. but you cant have everything in one option you have to make some take some minus points on the chin. So overall we are more than happy with the choice but our overall score reflects the issues that we do have.
