North Ridge Sphinx - 2 Berth Backpacking Tent

When you're out backpacking your tent needs to be easy to carry, there when you need it, but out of sight and mind when you don't.

The sphinx is ideal for packing and pitching without thinking. Whatever time you crash out after a day of hiking or exploring, the Sphinx can be up in minutes.
Built to be stable, the Sphinx is ideal for a variety of terrains and weather conditions, and is just as able to be standing after a gusty evening in the mountains to a temperate summer sleep on flat land.
A hydrostatic head rating of 10,000mm on the groundsheet means you stay perfectly dry, whilst the semi geodisic style adds extra support.
The Sphinx is a 2 berth style, ideal for adventurers that want a tent that can last season after season.
Super-sturdy and ultra-lightweight, a backpacker's tent for extreme conditions.

  • Quick and easy to pitch
  • Semi-geodesic
  • Stable against the elements

I got this tent from go outdoors online for £89.99 (£120 in store) and so far I'm really pleased with it. It weighs just over 3kgs and comes in a nice big size adjustable stuff sack. Putting the tent up was fairly straight forward although the first long pole you put up can be a bit tricky by yourself. The three poles form a very stable outer pitch first tent - just as stable as many much more expensive tents - ideal from typical British weather. The inner tent clips on really easily and is big enough for two thermarests and still gives you head room. I'm average height and fir in it fine but anyone much over 6ft is going to find this cramped if their with someone else. The porch is pretty big and can certainly get your packs and boots in there without too much trouble. It would be nice to have 4 ways zips on the door to allow for different venting options but this is only a small niggle. The pegs are basic but at least they're heavy duty and actually keep the tent standing in windy conditions unlike the 1g Titanium ones you get for Terra Nova tents. There are three guy lines, one on each side and one at the back. Another couple wouldn't hurt, especially one at the front if it was really windy but proper pitching should sort it out.

Pros: Good price. Outer pitch first (5000mm HH flysheet). Semi geodesic design. Good porch size and lots of headroom.

Cons: Not as light as other tents out there. Lack of door opening options.

Conclusion: A good value outer pitch tent with a semi geodesic design. It's hard to find a tent with this range of features and at this price. 5 Stars.
