Features
I have now owned my Carolina 3 for just over a year, and only last week did I manage to talk a friend into purchasing the Carolina-3 (now re-branded as the Carolina M). I have been extremely happy with the Carolina and with the standards produced by Outwell generally, so much to the point that I went on later in the year to purchase the Vermont L. Also my partner is really pleased with the Carolina and is still really pleased with the purchase.
So, what is it about the Carolina that makes it great,
For me, it has to be the solid steel poles, when erected the tent stands up to the elements as good as any tent and better than most. Having had a tent fail on me in bad weather, Its now important to me that I have a tent that can take the punishment dealt by the weather. I manage to fit a family of 5 into this tent and generally use it for weekends away, the 3 children sleep in the sectioned off sleeping area and my partner and I sleep in the main area. The tent having a fully sewn in ground sheet keeps warm during the night and with its many vents keeps aired during the day. We find its just big enough for short stays for the 5 of us, but if it was just the two of us would be plenty big enough. I am 5.8" and can stand up in the tent with no problems. Setting the tent up and putting away is really easy, the tent is basically a rectangle and can be folded up easily, I have never had a problem, unlike some of the multi-pod type tents I have owned.
If I had to pick fault with it, it would only be the lack of space for cooking, but we always take a small utility tent for cooking with us as this tent isn't designed to be cooked inside really.
I give the Carolina full marks and then some.
Extension
Just to add to this, the extension is now available for the Carolina 3/M. Adding the extension makes a great area for cooking under and for 2 people to sit under comfortably. I good buy and a great improvement to a great tent
