Definitely not just a saucepan with a lid!

I bought this handy little stove-top oven as I really wanted to improve my camping menu. I wanted the odd serving of pizza, the old favourite lasagne, as well as the possibility of some home made (or packet mix) cakes or biscuits (well, why not?)

I got mine cheap from an on-line auction seller, for far less then the RRP. I thought it was probably too good to be true, but it was worth a gamble.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The first use it got was on my brother's trailer tent kitchen (in his garage!). My sister-in-law (an enthusiastic baker herself) heard what I had got & immediately knocked up some cake mix. The only thing we could find for such a small amount of batter was some silicone cupcake moulds. We ended up with some very passable little cupcakes!

I've since used it on my coleman 424 petrol stove, with great effect. I've cooked a Tesco thin based pizza, which only just fitted in the pan, & a cheap pre-made lasagne (in plastic tray, for oven/microwave). Both were cooked very well.

The only thing to be wary of is the lack of browning. If you want anything to brown I suggest cooking with the lid slightly askew right from the beginning, this works much better than cooking with lid on then removing lid towards the end. If the lid is left slightly off you still have the thermometer in view, & the pot-parker doesn't contact the food.

I wish I could go on, but I feel I've rattled on for long enough. All in all this is a great little gadget, it's very light & packs away very small, into the net bag supplied.

It comes with full instructions & a few recipes. I give it full marks as it does exactly what it promises at a fraction of the price of other camping type ovens (Cadac & Cobb, which are, no doubt, very good, but too big & bulky & a bit too much for my budget).

I reckon I will make use of it on pretty much every camping trip from now on.

Oh yes, & it uses very little fuel, but you do need to bake things for longer than you usually would at home. The thermometer isn't in degrees, it's simply marked "warm up", "bake" & "burn!" You get used to it very quickly, but it is different to a household oven, but then, you are camping, & that's half the fun. Enjoy.
