We took one of these with us on a recent weekend away and it was just the ticket for keeping us warm in the chilly evening. Ideal for having a campfire where you're not allowed campfires.

The stove is quite compact when packed away as the chimney sections pack into the main body of the stove and the legs fold up. Assembling it is very simple just put the legs up and stack the chimney pieces. There's a piece to catch embers that might fall out of the door which is quite a neat touch. If you want to make sure it's secure there are holes on the feet to peg it down.

It's quite easy to stack and light, as you can get to the fire compartment from the side door and the top if needed. To get the fire going you can leave the door open to get the airflow going. Once it's lit you just stoke it with wood through the door. The chimney is tall enough to draw quite well and also to get the smoke up and out of the way.

Once the fire is going the stove kicks out quite a lot of heat when burning wood. We tried barbecue charcoal briquettes too but although these burnt well they didn't produce the same amount of heat. It's possible to cook on the stove too but that's not something we've tried yet.

The fire can be shut down by closing the door and shutting the chimney flap, this worked fine with wood but the barbecue briquettes kept smoldering for quite a while.

All in all it was a nice way to keep warm in the evening and you get to poke a fire every so often which is fun.

Having seen this stove at a humanitarian display, I spent ages trying to source one and then heard that they were being released by the manifacurer! So whats the stove got?

well its designed to pack down nicely, all the chimney sections fit inside of the firebox, and with 5 chimney sections it stands about 6foot 6 tall, The stove can only take smallish bits of timber and logs due to the size of the door but this is not a real issue if you are up for splitting some logs, it takes a very short time to get warm and kicks out a good bit of heat. The first burn is a bit smelly as the paint cooks but nothing major.

With the door locked open about an inch the stove kept a peice of beach workstop burning for about 60 minutes. An Enamal Kettle on the top of the stove took 12 minutes to boil 1 litre, so not as fast as a kelly kettle but fast enough, also this was on top of the top plate, for cooking on you can remove a pannel at the front (dont use your bare hands obviously)and sit a saucepan or wok directly on the heat.

All in all 4.8 out of 5
