One of the problems with camping is that for most of us it's not a year round activity. The season for comfortable family camping is relatively short, around May to September (isn't there a song called that? I wonder if it's really about camping?). So anything that could extend the season is definitely worth considering. Enter 'Camping Pods' which are now available at several sites including the C&C Club Site in Thetford Forest (see below) . I think they look like a great idea, we might even give one a spin later in the year.

The the POD (used on the C&C Club sites) is manufactured by a company called Newfoundland Lodges Ltd. You can find more info, including locations of other sites where they can be found, on their site here.

Here's what the C&C Club have to say about the pods they have at Thetford:

Thetford Forest is the latest Camping and Caravanning Club Site to invest in a trio of revolutionary Camping Pods.

The Norfolk-based Site, who earlier this year picked up the 2009 MMM (Motorcaravan Motorhome Monthly Magazine) Camping and Caravanning Park of the Year Award, is continuing to go from strength to strength with its advanced booking figure currently 10 per cent higher compared to this time last year.

The Site already boasts 150 pitches but franchisees Rob and Dawn Muggridge and Neil and Julie Purnell now have one Standard (sleeps four) and two Jumbo Camping Pods (sleeps five) available to both members and non-members, located in an idyllic setting around the fishing pond.

Neil Purnell said: “We are confident that the Pods will prove to be a huge success because of their build quality and overall stunning appearance.

“We believe we are the only Site in this part of the country with Pods so we are really excited by their arrival.”

Camping Pods are an eco-friendly alternative to camping and are made from locally sourced timber and insulated with sheep’s wool.

One night in a standard Pod at Thetford costs £37 whilst the Jumbo Pod is £45 per night. All Pods are non-electric for the summer of 2009.

Camping Pods have already proved to be a huge hit at Club Sites at Eskdale (Lake District), Bellingham (Northumberland) and the Isle of Skye.
