We've been contacted by Look what we found! They make ready meals but not like any ready meals I have come across before. The food is conscientiously sourced, lovingly cooked and sealed into adult portion-sized pouches which you can keep in the cupboard for months.
Here is what they say on their site:
We love the old fashioned foods that used to be daily staples and have become rare treats. Hearty, comfort foods whose ingredients take time to source, assemble and prepare and are chosen for taste, not because they can be flash fried in seconds.
We love the delightfully moist, melt in the mouth effect of gently cooking dishes like belly pork, mutton and rabbit in a stock based sauce, enhanced with natural ingredients like ale, honey, fruits and root vegetables.
That it is crucial to both the countryside and the rural economy that those who spend their life growing or rearing great food should be able to make a fair living. We believe that busy people should not have to rely on take-aways and tins and we hope that we will become a conduit for a rural revolution and a catalyst for the emergence of a new "micro is mighty" food phenomenon, which supports traditional food producers and provides consumers with exceptionally good food.
Look What We Found focus on relationships and responsibility. We have sought out and got to know specialist small-scale farmers and producers who share our values. We take responsibility for knowing how they grow their crops, or rear and take care of their animals and we are pleased to support, listen to and work with the food heroes who meet the very exacting standards set by our Director of Procurement. We treat our producers the way we would like to be treated and aim to be fair, friendly and never aggressive or mean.
We believe in being open, honest, accountable and available for our customers, so we welcome your questions, letters and emails and we will try to answer them quickly.
This all sounds great and the food looks lovely (I've not tasted it yet more on that in a minute) but why are they of interest to us campers? Well I'll let them asnwer that one.
All of our dishes can be stored without the need to be kept cool and have a long shelf life, perfect for any hardy camper. Simply stash some in your backpack or the caravan for your trip...if you don't eat them all they'll still be in perfect condition for the next one. Even if the temperature is too hot for you, as long as the temperature doesn't get to 60oC then our packs will be fine, and if they do get to this temperature then at least you won't need to use your gas to heat
them up!
Whether you're enjoying a relaxed weekend in the country, hiking up mountainous peaks or biking down them, canoeing lakes or shooting rapids, when it's time to eat what better than chef inspired recipes prepared in minutes? It couldn't be easier, simply heat some water and boil it in the bag! 5-10 minutes later....done. You can also heat them in a pan or even use a jet boil. Each pack weighs around 300g and the tough pouch is easily stuffed into any nook, backpack, or kayak and although they weigh a little more than your lightweight dried foods they certainly make up for it in taste.
Each of our delicious meals or tasty soups is prepared in very much the same way as you would a casserole at home, each specially sourced ingredient is prepared for the pot (in our case the pouch), they are then sealed and cooked in a large steam pressure cooker. One great aspect to this method is it locks in all the goodness and flavours from the ingredients without the need of any additives or preservatives...another is it makes great camping food!
So finally what do they taste like well to quote my little 2 year-old "I not sure" as we've not tried any yet. However as Look what we've found! have kindly sent us some samples expect some reviews in the near future. We'll be taking them with us on our next trip and let you know how they fair 'out in the field'.
