So we have worked out if we want to have holidays with the kids our best option is camping. By best option I mean affordable obviously. We have had a couple of trial runs at the end of last summer, if you can call it a summer, and they went ... well they were both aborted, one due to illness and one due to our then 1 year old screaming all night, she is usually a very good sleeper. We're therefore taking it easy to begin with, a few weekend trips close to home first, then hopefully at least one full week further afield later on in the year.

We don't have much equipment yet and so we'll be buying stuff and reporting here on what we get and why. We have however already bought a tent (an Outwell Sun Valley 8) at the end of last year when it was reduced. It's an enormous hanger type affair but is easy to get up and down, I'll post a more in depth review at another time. We'll be buying most of the essentials over the next few months, like sleeping and cooking equipment as well as a means to transport it all, either a roof box or a trailer.

Anyway, we'll be reporting back and hopefully getting input from others willing to share there experiences, reviewing equipment and sites.

wow that's a big tent :^)

camping in the UK seems to differ quite a bit from camping in the u.s. — i imagine you go to one spot and stay awhile? and the big tent helps out in the rainy weather?

we use the absolute smallest tent we can squeeze 4 cots into, because we want to be able to put up and take down quickly. but we don't hang out in the tent (obviously) if the weather is bad — we take ourselves somewhere else with better weather or to do indoor activities.

enjoying your blog!
