Having decided that the cost of fitting a towbar means a trailer is too expensive to contemplate (see my previous post) I now have to decide which roofbox to buy. Having looked at the options I've narrowed it down to four which hold 400+ litres. I think that if we're going to go the trouble of getting a roofbox we may as well get a decent sized one (I've also added a 380L one to the comparison just for interest, and because it's been given a glowing review here).
Below is a table comparing the pice of the various boxes, including the P&P.
| Halfords 470 | Atera Carver II 410 | Atera 820 (package) | KAMEI 400 (package) | Karrite 380 | |
| Pictured | top left | | top right | bottom right | bottom left |
| Roofbox | 200 | 180 | 250 | 260 | 130 |

| P&P | 5 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| Total | 295 | 265 | 260 | 270 | 215 |
| Capacity (litres) | 470 | 410 | 430 | 400 | 380 |
| Cost per litre | 63p | 65p | 60p | 68p | 56p |

I think it comes down to the Halfords 470L box and the Atera 820. The 820 looks like the favourite at the moment beause it has slightly better specs than the Halfords 470, including double side opening. As the 820 is longer and thinner than the 470 as well it means it leaves room (in the future) for bike racks on the roofbars too. The only issue with the 820 is that it's slightly longer than the roof so that it will overhang the windscreen slightly (by perhaps 50mm).
Anyway, as we're planning our first camping outing in 3 weeks time I need to make a decision sooner rather than later. One other thing I'd note is that looking at the pictures it's pretty obvious they all look pretty similar and they are all pretty ugly.
Looks like they've sold out
All this procratination means I've missed the deal. Ah well.
