Aspiring online gastronome, the Jolly Gourmand, launches ‘gastro-rations’ - a veritable feast of refined repasts, tantalising titbits, and delightful desserts put together to fuel the outdoor gourmet for a full day. A ration pack for the gourmet gallivant.

We conducted extensive research into the current expeditionary food offerings and the results were startling...much of it doesn’t taste very good!

Whilst fortified fell runners might become accustomed to a cold tin of sardines in a howling gale on the side of a mountain, and indurated infantry to whatever it is in that indistinguishable foil pouch, we’re a bit softer than that. We want our outdoor eating to be just as healthy, nutritious, and natural as cold sardines...but also to taste nice and not make us smell like pilchards.

Jolly Gourmand Gastro Rations Menu AEach of our four menus features dishes such as Organic Scottish Porridge with Berries; authentic Chicken Curry; Wild Rabbit in Leek & Elderflower Sauce; and handmade Orange & Cointreau sponge pudding for desert. For an energy boost whilst walking to your next outdoor dining venue we’ve included sumptuous snacks such air roasted nuts & seeds lightly spiced with ginger, cinnamon, & coconut; a giant organic porridge and fruit bar; protein-packed authentic biltong; and a big slab of the original chocolate-covered Kendal Mint Cake. To wash that little lot down we’ve included a pulped fruit smoothie; vitamin-enriched fruit drink mixes; fairtrade tea and hot chocolate; and rainforest alliance instant coffee.

Carefully sourced from British producers, each pack provides everything even the poshest outdoor gourmand could wish for, and everything can be shoved in a pack or pocket and prepared in just minutes wherever you are. With around 2300 calories; probably three of your five a day; and a good balance of both simple and complex carbohydrates, protein, and essential oils and fats, the only thing we haven’t man- aged to fit in is a fancy cravat. All the meals can be boiled in the bag, cooked in a ration heater, warmed over a trangia, and even eaten cold...and at just a little shy of 2kg, each individual pack can be sent to operational armed forces through the BFPO.

Epicurean eating for the great outdoors, these packs provide everything for a full day’s endeavour. A gastronomic gift for the elegant expeditionist, connoisseur corpsman, fashionable fisherman, or sybarite scout. Available only at the Jolly Gourmand online http://www.thejollygourmand.co.uk.
