We've booked a weekend away next weekend. Well it seemed rude not to. Anyway the site we're going to only had EHU (Electric Hook Up) pitches left. We've been considering joining the EHU brigade for a while so this has given up the impetus to get on with it. We don't want to limit ourselves to only EHU camping as we like the freedom of pitch where you want and we've done pretty well without EHU until now but also we can see that there are advantages to having a power supply to hand. So we're going to get a few bit of EHU kit for use when it's available but not cut off our ability to do without.
So what are we getting? Well firstly a cable to connect to the EHU post and run into the tent. Sounds like a cheap bit of kit, how wrong I was. Obviously it needs an RCD (Residual Current Device) for safety reasons, heavy duty cable (and quite a bit of it) and a special plug on the end to connect to the post. That all adds up and they cost around £50. You can get cheaper ones, without the RCD and heavy duty cable on eBay but for the sake of £20 I'd rather have something that was safe.
The only other thing we're getting now is a new electric coolbox. We looked at 3-way (12v, mains and gas powered) fridges but decided that all we really need is a 2-way (12v & mains) coolbox about the size of our current one (23 litres). We found a 24 litre Outwell one at a good price(£35) so decided to go with that, it's also a jolly lime green colour.
So that's it for now, we'll pack the phone and DS chargers and might take some iPod speakers too, but we're not planning on buying any other EHU specific kit just yet.
