We're back from our first foray in our new trailer tent and it's so much better than the tent. On the drive home we were discussing whether there was anything we were disappointed about the trailer tent. There were only a couple of things, you can't open the windows in the bedrooms from the inside and there is no mosquito mesh over the door of the tent (where we sleep). Then we went on to whether we missed anything about the tent. The only thing we could come up with was that we both liked the little ground level windows in the tent sleeping areas that let you see outside from your sleeping bag. That was it. Everything else about the trailer tent was better than the tent.
Of all the reasons the trailer tent is better I think the biggest is the way the space is organized. We have an inner sanctum of the trailer where we sleep which is off the ground, warm and cozy. Attached is the awning that's a midway between outside and inside which works brilliantly. If it's raining you can close it all up and sit in it drinking tea, if it's warm you can take the front and sides off and it's like a big sun canopy. It's not got a sewn in groundsheet but that's a good thing, it means we don't need to be precious about the kids taking their shoes off, like we did in the tent. Also it means that if you drip tea it doesn't matter so much.
There are other things that stand out too like the pre-packed pre-assembled kitchen, the ease of pitching it and packing it, the comfy beds off the ground and so on, but I think the really useful space we get with the trailer tent that we just didn't have with our tent is the biggest improvement.
Even My Little Pony agreed the experience was far better in the trailer tent than the tunnel tent.
We'll definitely be selling the tunnel tent now.
