I saw a tweet yesterday that got me thinking:
I've got to admire my 4 year old daughter
- it's -4 as we camp under canvas and she's tucked up fast asleep
- Hardy camper in the making
Hardy camper indeed! We're big wussy campers, we don't venture out until it's t-shirt weather and we can sit out in the evenings drinking beer under the stars. I mentioned it to my OH and she said "Well we don't have the right equipment to go camping this time of year" by which she meant 4 season sleeping bags and so on.
This got me thinking, would we go camping this time of year is we had the kit? I've taken the car for it's MOT this morning and then walked by home (the village garage is just around the corner). On the walk back I put my hat and gloves on, (according to the car) it was -1 and it felt like it. Would I want to crawl out of a tent in such cold weather even if I'd spent the night snug in a 4 season sleeping bag? The answer is ... no.
I had been thinking that being less hardy campers made us lesser campers. I've realised that's rubbish though. I don't want to camp in the cold, I like camping my way and that's how it should be.
So if you like to camp in the snow and frost, have fun, we'll be out just as soon as the weather warms up - a lot.
